When you first time login to your State Bank of India net banking account, you’re asked to set a profile password to authenticate your online transactions. This way you set two passwords (login password to get access to your account and profile password to make changes and authenticate transactions) for your SBI Online Banking service. SBI profile password adds an extra layer of security to your online State Bank of India account for example if someone gets access to your online banking account by using your login password then he/she cannot transfer funds or make changes without your profile password.
Though, it’s a beneficial feature but at the same time it’s a hassle to remember two complicate passwords. It’s quite obvious that someone can forget his/her SBI profile password or login password.
Keeping this basic human nature, SBI Online service enables you change your net banking credentials online without visiting your branch. In this post, I’ll be showing you how to reset profile password in SBI.
While setting up your SBI profile password, you would have set a hint question and answer for your transaction password. Now, you can use that hint question to reset your State Bank of India profile password.
If, unfortunately, you’ve forgot your hint question too, then don’t despair, you can still reset your password.
Here are the steps to set profile password in SBI online banking for first time login:
If you’re a new user and setting up password for first time then you can set your SBI transaction password by following the steps given below. Otherwise, skip these steps and read to know SBI profile password reset process.
- When you get access to your SBI internet banking account for first time, page automatically asks you to set up a profile password.
- When you’re asked to do so, simply enter a profile password for your SBI online banking account using special characters, letters, and numbers e.g. Abc@123. Your transaction password must be different from your login password.
- After entering your transaction password, reenter it in the next field and click on Submit button.
- Now, select a hint question and answer for your online banking account. You’ll be using them to reset your SBI profile password; in case you forget it. Select easy and memorable question and answer. Subsequently, hit Submit button.

How to Reset SBI Profile Password

First of all, login to your internet banking account using your login user ID and password.

Forgot login password too? If you’ve forgot your SBI net banking login password too then first you will need to reset that and then you can reset your transaction password. You can click here to know how to reset SBI login password.
After getting access to your account, hover your mouse cursor over ‘Profile’ tab (from the sidebar) and then click on the first option ‘Profile Details’.

Thereafter, click on ‘Forget Profile Password’.

In the next step, select your hint question that you’ve set at the time of setting up profile password. Then enter its answer. Subsequently, click on Submit.
Note: If you’ve forgot your hint question then underneath the Submit button, you can see ‘Please click here’. Just click on that link and on the next page, you’ll be asked to enter your branch code (you can find branch code on your bank passbook). After entering the branch code, click on ‘Get branch name’. Then click on Submit. On the next page, click on ‘Click here to download the form’. Thereafter, a form will be downloaded to your computer, now print it out and submit it in your bank branch. After submitting the form, your SBI profile password will be provided by the bank.
Now, on the next page, you can set a new password for your SBI net banking. For SBI profile password reset, enter your new profile password using special characters, letters, and numbers example AbC@123 and then reenter it in the next field.
You can change your hint question and answer too or let them same. If you don’t want to change your SBI hint question then simply select your last hint question and enter the same answer. Finally, click on Submit to reset your profile password.
That’s it. You’ve successfully reset your transaction password.
