Many tax payers were using multiple PAN accounts to save tax. To deal with such cunning people, government of India has taken an initiative. As per new guidelines, all PAN card holders have to link Aadhaar card with PAN card.
This way, concerned authority, Income Tax Department, will be able to block multiple PAN cards belonging to a single entity or person. To make PAN card Aadhar card link process easy, government of India allows taxpayers to map Aadhaar with PAN card online and offline.
For PAN card Aadhar card link, you can visit e-filing website of the authority. You can also send a text message through your mobile to link your permanent account number to your UIDAI issued identity card called Aadhaar card.
Before that, you may be aware that Permanent Account Number (PAN) is an important document to file tax returns and also it can be used as an address proof, therefore, having more than one PAN card is against the law.
On the other hand, Aadhaar card is a unique identification number issued by government of India, which contains your geographical and bio-metric data, to all its citizens.

Update: CBDT has extended the deadline for Linking PAN with Aadhaar from 31st December, 2019 to 31st March, 2020. Taxpayers can link their Aadhaar with PAN on/before 31st March, 2020.

Taxpayers can send an SMS in following format from their mobile number to link Aadhaar with PAN card to 567678 or 56161:
UIDPAN Your 12 digit Aadhaar card number 10 digit PAN card number
e.g. UIDPAN 607000000000 DGLM0000l and send it to 567678 or 56161.
Taxpayers who would like to map Aadhaar with PAN card through SMS will need to send a text message in the following format ‘UIDPAN Your 12 digit Aadhaar card number 10 digit PAN card number ‘ from their mobile number to 567678 or 56161.
After sending the SMS, your Aadhaar card will be linked to your permanent account number.
Link Aadhaar with PAN card online
Follow the steps given below to link Aadhaar with PAN card by visiting official website of Income Tax Department.
Visit official website of Income Tax Department (link- https://www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/home ).
From the side panel, click on Link Aadhaar. Or if you have created an account on the portal then you can login and then move your mouse on Profile settings and then click on Link Aadhaar option.
In the next step, PAN card Aadhar card link form will appear on your computer screen, simply enter your 10 digit PAN card number and then Aadhaar card number. Next, if only birth year mentioned on your Aadhaar card then you will need to tick the box front of “I have only year of birth in Aadhaar card,” otherwise enter your date of birth.
Then enter the captcha code in the box below. Subsequently, click on Link Aadhaar button.
Note: If you’re unable to read captcha code text then tick the box next to Request OTP. Upon ticking the box, you will need to enter a mobile number to receive one time password which you have to enter in the box.
Make sure to enter correct details because your PAN card will be validated against your Aadhaar card details.
